Our ‘WAIMA’ programme is an approach we use to teach and reinforce positive behaviour expectations. This approach is based on the Ministry of Education’s initiative - Positive Behaviour for Learning School Wide (PB4L-SW).

The support systems and analysis ensures WAIMA is working effectively. All decisions and teaching focuses are developed in response to clear evidence and data on the behavioural incidents collected.

WAIMA provides a consistent, effective school-wide approach to behaviour management through developing positive relationships and targeted teaching.

WAIMA is guided by a leadership team.

Our whole staff fosters the school-wide approach through decision making, celebrating and promoting WAIMA.

Whole Staff/Team meetings will occur every fourth and eighth week at staff meeting.

Community input and feedback is encouraged through consultation.

Our WAIMA mission statement aims to…

Create a positive learning and behavioural environment that the whole school community understands and consistently abides by

Have a common set of values that are the foundation for our school culture

Teach critical skills that empower our tamariki to be responsible, positive role models

Encourage and celebrate the successes of each tamariki to reach their potential

A breakdown of each of the values through staff, student and community input and consultation, drive the teaching of WAIMA within our kura and also out in the wider Waima community.

This means that we (as a staff) aim to develop tamariki who exhibit:
